Covid cases below 30,000 after 125 days, deaths below 400 | India News

NEW DELHI: Daily Covid-19 cases in the country fell below the 30,000 mark on Monday to its lowest count in 125 days while the death toll from the virus dipped to a 111-day low of 373. This was the first time since March 30 that the daily toll from the pandemic had fallen below 400.
India reported 29,314 new cases on Monday. The last time the daily count had fallen below 30,000 was on March 16. Cases see a sharp drop every Monday due to lower testing and staff shortages over the weekend. On Sunday, India had recorded 38,574 fresh cases.
Kerala continued to see rising cases for the third week running. However, in the week ended Sunday, the state saw the growth rate of fresh cases fall to 4%, from 8.1% in the preceding week.
Kerala remains the Covid hotspot of the country, with 95,600 cases recorded in the week gone by at a daily average of over 13,600.
The northeast remains another area of worry. Weekly cases continued to surge in several states of the region. Manipur reported a surge of 30%, up from 26.6% in the previous week. It also saw the highest rise in cases in the northeast in absolute terms, with 7,091 new infections in the week, up from 5,445 in previous seven days. In Arunachal Pradesh, cases rose by 24% following a 44% rise in previous week. Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, the daily average remained over 8,000, with the state recording 56,391 fresh cases as compared with 59,622 in preceding week.
