In the space of seven deliveries that Brar bowled on Friday, he broke the back of the RCB batting line-up removing Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers. With this Brar also became the first bowler this season to dismiss Kohli, Maxwell and AB in the same match.

10.1 – Virat was bowled off the first ball of the 10th over, when a Harpreet delivery bowled short of length and on a middle stump line crashed into the leg stump. Virat was left quite stunned

10.2 – Very next delivery, it was Maxwell’s turn to be left completely bemused. This time Harpreet pitched it on a length and again on a middle stump line, the ball turned, squaring up Maxwell who was trying to whip it on the leg side and hit the top of off stump. It wasn’t just Maxwell, the umpires too seemed confused and referred it to the third umpire. But there was no doubt – Harreet had got two in two

The next four deliveries of the 11th over were dot balls, as Harpreet completed a double wicket maiden.
KL Rahul brought him back again for the 13th over and that’s when he got the third big RCB scalp
12.1 – First ball of the 13th over and Harpreet accounted for the one and only AB de Villiers as well. This one was short of a length and was pushed through hard on off stump. AB tried to punch it through the covers, but chipped it straight to Rahul at extra cover.

He gave away just 2 runs in this over. Brar finished the match with incredible figures of 3/19 in 4 overs and walked away with the Man of the match award in what was just his fourth IPL match overall and the first this season.

After the match on Friday, as Harpreet was adjudged the Man of the match he said- “They’ll be happy at home I’m sure, it’s their best wishes that have got me here. I didn’t feel anything about being hit for six because a bowler always has a chance to come back. So I knew I could come back. My first IPL wicket is Virat paaji and that helps. Your body opens up, you get confident, and things fall into place. When I went into bat there was time to wait and see for an over or two. Rahul bhai was there at the other end to talk to me about the conditions and such.”
Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul, who scored a magnificent unbeaten 91 off 57 balls meanwhile said- “We were preparing him (Harpreet), I can say that now after a game like this. We needed a finger-spinner who could hit the hard lengths and get some spin. And we’re happy it worked out.”
It worked out for sure. There’s no doubt that Harpreet will be a constant in the Punjab Kings playing XI for a while now. It will be very interesting to see how much he troubles opposition batsmen going forward and how quickly batsmen analyse his bowling style.
