Highlights of Sushmita Sen’s iconic legacy

At the early age of 18, she entered the pageant world by participating in Miss India. And with a notable performance, she bested Aishwarya Rai and 22 others to win the national title.

Years later, she admitted that at the time, she could not afford designer gowns as they had to wear four different costumes during the event. That is when Sushmita’s mother suggested they go shopping at Sarojini Nagar market and found a local tailor who made petticoats. They gave him the material for the gown and simply told him that the gown would come on TV, so he should do a good job. She also said that her gloves were actually cut-up socks with elastic at one end.
