NEW DELHI: Two days ahead the monsoon session of Parliament, Rajya Sabha MP and NCP president Sharad Pawar called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Saturday.
“Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sharad Pawar met PM,” the PMO said in a tweet on Saturday. According to sources, Pawar’s meeting with PM Modi lasted for nearly 50 minutes.
The NCP chief’s meeting with PM Modi comes in the backdrop of controversial remarks made by Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole.
Nana Patole on Wednesday described Pawar as the “remote control” of the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the state.
Patole also kicked up a row when he sought to suggest that the MVA government was keeping an eye over his movements and claimed the Shiv Sena and the NCP feel the ground was slipping from beneath their feet due to his party’s growing influence.
The NCP is a key constituent of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra, which is led by Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena. The Congress is the third ally in the MVA.
Monsoon session of Parliament
The monsoon session of Parliament will commence from July 19 and continue till August 13.
Newly-appointed Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal on Friday met senior opposition leaders including former prime minister and Congress leader Manmohan Singh, his party colleague Anand Sharma and NCP leader Sharad Pawar ahead of the monsoon session .
The interactions with senior opposition leaders are being seen as an outreach exercise by the government ahead of the session.
The government has listed 17 new bills for introduction in the session, including three to replace ordinances issued recently.
