We give you an insight into the interview with excerpts chosen from the interaction. But, below is the FULL INTERVIEW IN VIDEO. Click right away:
We began by asking Vivek to tell us how he would describe their togetherness of 20 years plus. “It has been outstanding. No politics, no conspiracies, just love.” Ditto about his equation with Neena’s daughter Masaba Gupta, he emphasised.
But wasn’t he tense that his marriage with Neena might not happen as Masaba might object? “No. You see, we went around for 4-5 years before we tied the knot,” said Vivek. “Masaba might have been a bit concerned in the beginning but I am a very likeable guy,” he said, and the couple laughed in unison.
It may be recalled that Neena had told ETimes in #BigInterview that “unmarried women are not respected”. She told us today that she still holds that opinion. We asked her to elaborate. It was Vivek who explained, “It happens and maybe it happens that a woman feels she is being seen as available and might fall prey. It’s an element of insecuritry that might creep in. But in today’s liberated world that could happen both ways,” he insisted.
Would Neena want Masaba to marry again? “Look, she’s 30. She has a mind of her own. Whatever she decides for herself, I am with her,” Neena said,
Goes without saying that Neena and Vivek rallied around Masaba when she parted ways with her husband, Madhu Mantena. “We liked Madhu and it all seemed fine. But they didn’t get along with each other.” Are they in touch with Madhu, say on ‘Hello’, ‘Hi’ and ‘How are you?’ terms? “Nope, just need-based conversation if at all once in a way- else it would just increase Masaba’s hurt. But we have nothing against him,” they insisted.
Has Neena had unpleasant experiences with men in the industry? Neeta held up her forthcoming autobiography ‘Sach Kahun Toh’ and said with a big smile, “Read it in my autobiography.” But we probed. Has she got wrong vibes from men in the industry? She was away from the limelight for quite some time. “No, nothing of that sort happened to me in the industry.”
But men do feel that a single woman is vulnerable and try to get close to them? Did it happen with her? “Yes it did,” Neena clarified. “But I would soon realise the intentions in question. Nobody can take anybody for a ride unless someone wants to go on that ride.”
Do Neena and Vivek call up each other and ask: Where are you? Who’s with you? “Ye nahin poochte ki kiske saath ho, lekin haan yeh zaroor poochte hain kahan ho,” Neena laughed. Vivek countered by asking if we were hinting that are they suspicious by nature? Neena laughed and we told him that we did not mind that he had interpreted our question in that manner as on second thoughts, our answer to that lay somewhere in the middle.
Is Neena hot-tempered? “At times, she is. Even I am hot-tempered, in fact very hot-tempered. But hum dono ka gussa bahut jaldi thanda ho jata hai,” he said. “Constantly sulking about something is nothing but self-destruction,” Neena said.
Does Vivek far that his opinionated wife might get castigated for writing something on Twitter and say something in an interview, fearlessly? “She is a strong, independent lady who can handle such situations,” Vivek dismissed it off.
Back to where we started from. Not only has she not coloured her daughter’s mind against her father but she hasn’t kept her away from him either. Masaba is in touch with Sir Vivian Richards. “I am not in touch with him, though,” Neena quipped.
