During the first lockdown, actors like Tiger Shroff and Ajay Devgn had extended help to the stunt artistes. Ajay, who is the son of action director Veeru Devgan, had transferred Rs 5000 to about 350 fighters of the Movie Stunt Artistes Association. Tiger, who is known to perform his own stunts, had distributed essential ration to 250 members of the association.
Bollywood’s khiladi Akshay Kumar also continues to help them out by paying an insurance cover for all the 616 members of the association. When things are normal, a stunt artiste earns about Rs 9000 per shift, which includes conveyance fees. Most of the members of the association live in rented apartments. Considering fitness is the basic requirement of the job for them, they have to maintain a certain lifestyle and follow a particular diet. Doing this had become very challenging for them during the lockdown.
Even when shoots resume, Covid guidelines will not allow crowding on sets, so, stunt artistes will have to wait before they can return to sets. Keeping this in mind, the fraternity seems to be doing their best to help them in times of distress so that they can tide over the crisis.
