Tamil Nadu parties urge Centre not to give clearances to Karnataka’s Mekedatu dam project | Chennai News

CHENNAI: An all-party meeting led by Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Monday urged the Union government not to give clearances by any of its ministries to Karnataka’s Mekedatu dam project.
The meeting of legislature parties unanimously passed three resolutions after a two-hour-long session at the secretariat.
“No construction should be made in Mekedatu without the approval of the lower riparian states as per the Supreme Court order. The Karnataka government’s efforts to build the dam against that order is condemnable,” a resolution said, adding how the project would affect the farmers getting the required water.
The resolution also said such an attempt against the Supreme Court order was a challenge to the Constitution.
In another resolution, the parties expressed full support and cooperation to the state government’s measures to stall the project.
It decided to present the resolutions to the Union government reflecting the sentiments of the people against the project, besides taking all legal steps and all required efforts.
