While fans wait on edge to see the biggest stars attend the fashion gala which will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the museum’s Costume Institute and “explore a modern vocabulary of American fashion” with its ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’ theme.
As we wait for the big night, we took a look back at Bollywood star Deepika Padukone‘s show-stopping moment at the do in 2019. Keeping up with the Camp theme, the actress turned Barbie for designer Zac Posen’s creation that the actress dubbed as “incredible”.
“It’s not a dress, it’s like art,” Deepika says on noticing the many-layered confection, when she saw her gown for the first time, just 24 hours before she could walk the Met Gala red carpet.
The invite-only event is normally held the first Monday in May, but has been pushed back to back to September 13 in hopes that things will be more “normal.”
This year, however, the event won’t be on the first Monday of the month because that date is already occupied by Labour Day. This year’s exhibit will open in two parts.
On September 18, 2021, the first event ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’ will be opened. Part two, ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion,’ will open on May 5 of next year.
The black-tie event, which raises funds for Met’s Costume Institute, is fashion’s biggest night. Guests in years pasts include everyone from Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian to Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and CAA’s Bryan Lourd. Performers have included Rihanna, The Weeknd and Cher.
On the personal front, it was revealed on Tuesday that the actress tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently in Bangalore with her family. Earlier today, it was reported that Deepika’s father, Prakash Padukone, mother Ujjala, and sister Anisha, had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. More details about Deepika’s health are awaited.
